Changing Hearts and MindsThe way everybody in our communities thinks and responds to disabled people and disability issues has a big affect on the lives of disabled people and their families. At CCS Disability Action we aim to affect change in communities so disabled people have access to the same opportunities as all other New Zealanders.
The New Zealand Disability Strategy, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Treaty of Waitangi and a community development approach guide us. We pride ourselves on being leaders, being innovative, and being collaborative. We act, and we constantly reflect on what has been achieved and how to achieve more. Together we can shift our society forward to make it more inclusive of disabled people.
Our stories is a place for people to learn more about life with disability. People’s attitudes are really important in the lives of people with disability. If you are in education, an employer or belong to a community group find out more on these pages. Our student page is great for information and student stories. Watch some of the wonderful "My Story Is.." short films produced by students on our FILM FEST page. You may also be interested in more stories.
The exhibition "My Name Is ..." is photographs of personal moments in the lives of disabled people.
The Man With No Arms & Other StoriesThis absorbing book Glenn Busch captures with compelling authenticity the intimate stories of nine people who live daily with the reality of a disability. They speak candidly of growing up, the importance of work, family, relationships, parenthood, of wanting to be treated like everyone else in a world that still chooses to see them as different.
